Automotive Industry

Aichi Prefecture’s automotive industry accounts for 40% of its GDP, making it Japan’s leading automotive region. Aichi is a powerhouse for producing automobiles and automotive parts, ranking among the world’s top industrial areas. Additionally, based on the 2011 Aichi Automotive Industry Innovation Plan, the prefecture is actively developing next-generation vehicles, promoting trial operations of autonomous vehicles, and building infrastructure such as hydrogen stations.

Aerospace Industry

Since being designated as Asia’s No. 1 aerospace industry cluster special zone in 2011, Aichi Prefecture’s aerospace sector has rapidly advanced. It now produces about 50% of the aircraft parts and 80% of the airframe components in the Chubu region. The Chubu area is the largest aerospace industrial region in Japan and Asia, striving daily to become an international hub on par with Seattle in the United States and Toulouse in France.

Robotics Industry

In addition to the automotive and aerospace sectors, Aichi Prefecture has designated the robotics industry as its third main industrial sector, accounting for 20% of Japan’s robotics-related GDP. Following the establishment of the Aichi Robotics Industry Cluster Promotion Council in November 2014, the region has particularly promoted the development of medical and caregiving robots as well as unmanned aerial robots. In 2021, the World Robot Summit was held at Aichi Sky Expo.

Research and Development

In 2013, Aichi Prefecture launched “Chino Kyoten Aichi,” a development hub for industrial promotion, and established an industrial development system through collaboration among academia, government, and industry. The region conducts research and development that directly addresses the real needs of industry. Moreover, Aichi boasts 20 public testing and research facilities, 11 industrial support organizations, and 8 incubator facilities, making it a dynamic industrial area well-suited for hosting industry-related events.
